New Mikvah in Canberra

New Mikvah in Canberra Rabbi Dan and Naomi Avital moved to Canberra, Australlia in the beginning of 2009, and established a branch of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement in Canberra . They are guided by Rabbi Aharon Seryabranski, a leading Chabad rabbi in Melbourne.

They are proud to announce that  Mikvah Chaya Mushka Canberra will be opening its doors soon to serve the small Jewish community of Canberra. Community members will no longer need to travel to use the mikvah in neighboring towns. The building contains two ritual baths and three bathrooms. Rabbi Avital said “We have seen a tremendous growth in the community and participation in our events over last year and we believe this is the right time for this extraordinary development.”

Rabbi Avital is a graduate of Mayanot Yeshiva in Jerusalem, and earned his Smicha – Rabbinic Ordination in 2009. He is well known for his warm smile and accepting demeanour, not to mention his deep knowledge of Jewish law and philosophy. He spends his time teaching individuals and groups, visiting the elderly and ill through his role as a Jewish chaplain and providing the diverse Jewish community with an even more diverse range of services and support.

Naomi graduated from Ohel Chana Seminary in Melbourne, Australia, before studying in Israel for a year at Seminary Chaya Mushka, in Tzfat. She has spent many years working with children of all ages in camps and preschools around the world, from Birmingham, Alabama  to Melbourne. She also has a passion for adult education, having taught at MerkosWomen before moving to Canberra, she now strives to make knowledge of our heritage accessible to Jewish women here in Canberra.

The Avitals are joined by their beautiful daughter Chaya Mushka, who is known to put a smile on the face of everyone who walks into their warm home.
