The whole world knows the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson. Hundreds of thousands have written to him and visited him to receive his holy blessings. His picture appears in every corner of the world. Appropriately, he has been called "the most well known Jew in the world".
The Rebbe's wife, Rebbetzin Chaya Mushkah Schneerson, was different. She lived her life inconspicuously, with utmost modesty, never appearing at public occasions. Few, even among Lubavitchers, knew her. The Rebbetzin's life was dedicated to a single purpose - devoted support of her husband's sacred task of leading our people and the world towards the ultimate Redemption.
This meant in effect, that the Rebbetzin's life was dedicated to the benefit of the Jewish people. the Rebbe expressed it poignantly to one of the thousands who came to console him during the week of mourning, saying, "Her true greatness is known only to the One Above!".
